- Four numbers decide a hire: the rate, transport both ways, the operator, and the fuel.
- A month is about twenty-five days of the daily rate, so duration is the biggest lever you control.
- The spread between honest quotes is real: a quarter of the price even on the most-traded machine.
- Verification is a check on papers, done before a machine is confirmed, not a safety inspection.

What decides the price
Duration
The largest lever. A 20-tonne crawler excavator quotes 650-800 a day, 4,000-5,250 a week and 16,000-20,000 a month: the month is about twenty-five days of the daily rate, and four weeks costs at least as much as a month. Past roughly three and a half weeks, ask for the monthly rate.
Transport
Quoted separately and charged in both directions. Median one-way: about 1,000 SAR for a 20-tonne excavator, 1,200 for a backhoe, 5,500 for a D8 dozer, 15,500 for a 250-tonne crane. Distance is part of the price, not a surcharge.
The operator
Included in some offers and not others, and it varies by size inside one machine class: 85% of 20-tonne excavator quotes include one, 36% at 30 tonnes. Ask, and agree who pays overtime.
Fuel
Not part of the quoted rate in this market. Agree who fills the tank and in what condition the machine comes back.
Where the machine is
Some classes are national markets and some are local. A 100-tonne crane draws three times as many quotes Kingdom-wide as in Riyadh; a 10-tonne forklift is quoted almost entirely in one city.
How to hire without the arguments
- Specify five things: machine and size by operating weight, dates and whether they can move, site access, who provides operator/fuel/transport, and duration.
- Ask several yards the same written question. One call shows you one price.
- Compare scope before rate. The cheaper number is often the one missing the operator.
- Check the company: commercial registration, VAT, national address, ownership of the machines. Verification covers that and takes two to three working days; the limits are on the compliance page.
- Inspect on arrival: hour meter, undercarriage or tyres, attachments, and that the machine on the trailer is the machine on the offer.

Operator share and mobilisation are medians across the quotes for that size, and a price range is the middle half of them, so a quarter of offers sit below it and a quarter above.
