Compaction is where published price lists drift furthest from reality, and where our own data is thinnest. Both of those are worth saying out loud.
The figures below come from requests placed on Moedatech and the offers suppliers returned against them. They are what was quoted on real jobs, not what was advertised.
In short
- Only the 5-tonne soil roller clears our evidence bar: about 10,750-13,000 SAR a month, on five Kingdom-wide quotes.
- Every other compaction size sits on one to three quotes. They are listed below as observations, not as rates.
- Duration and transport explain most of the spread, and a roller often travels further than the job is long.
- For a real number, put the actual specification to several yards at once.
What the quotes show
We do not publish a rate for a size unless at least five suppliers have quoted it. In compaction, one size clears that bar. The rest are shown with their counts so you can see exactly how thin they are:
| Machine and size | Per month, SAR | How often quoted |
|---|---|---|
| Single drum soil roller, 5 t | 10,750-13,000 | Some quotes |
| Single drum soil roller, 10 t | 14,000-15,000 | Few quotes |
| Single drum soil roller, 22 t | 10,000-19,000 | Few quotes |
| Single drum soil roller, 25 t | 12,000-13,000 | Few quotes |
| Pneumatic tyre roller, 16 t | 13,000 | Few quotes |
| Tandem asphalt roller, 5 t | 17,500 | Few quotes |
| Tandem asphalt roller, 10 t | 25,000 | Few quotes |
Why the thin rows are still worth printing
Look at the 22-tonne row: two quotes, 10,000 and 19,000. Nearly double, for the same nominal machine. That is not a price range. It is two different jobs, or two yards with very different distances to travel. Publishing the count is what stops that pair being read as a market rate.
The 5-tonne soil roller was also quoted at about 700 SAR a day, which against the monthly figure is roughly the same twenty-five day relationship the rest of the fleet shows.
What actually moves the number
Duration
A one-week hire and a three-month hire are different products. The monthly rate is not the daily rate multiplied out: across the fleet the month works out at about twenty-five days of the daily rate.
Mobilisation
Moving a roller between regions can cost more than several days of hire, and it is charged in both directions. A yard already near your site starts with an advantage nothing else closes. Ask for the transport as a number before you compare rates.
Wet or dry hire
Whether an operator comes with the machine, and who carries the fuel, changes the comparison entirely. Across the wider fleet this varies by size even inside one machine class, so it is never safe to assume.
Timing
Demand is not flat through the year. Asphalt work clusters, and a roller that is idle in one month is on a job in the next, which is visible in how differently the same size is quoted from one request to another.
How to use these figures
- Treat them as a sanity check, not a target. An offer well outside the range is a question to ask, not a reason to walk away. It usually points at a difference in scope, condition or what is bundled.
- Specify the compaction, not just the machine. Layer depth, material and the specification you have to meet decide which roller is right.
- Ask several yards the same written question, and include yards outside your immediate area if the job is long enough to absorb the transport.
- Get the operator, fuel and transport stated before comparing any two numbers.
Current figures for every machine we can price are on the rental rates page; the construction classes are listed under construction equipment.
Source: Moedatech platform data. The published ranges rest on 13,820+ supplier quotes given on the platform between April and August 2026. Figures on this page are Riyadh unless stated, in Saudi riyals, excluding VAT. A quote count in a table is the number of offers received for that one machine size in that period; it is not a measure of how many suppliers or machines are on the platform, which the company publishes separately. Operator share and mobilisation are medians across the quotes for that size, and a price range is the middle half of them, so a quarter of offers sit below it and a quarter above.
